Favourite pubs, pizza joints, fine-dining restaurants, bars, themed and fast-food restaurants round out the eatery scene.
Locals also enjoy the city’s year-round farm market, open Saturdays from 6 a.m. to noon at 70 Young St. in the downtown area.
Recent demographics indicate a mixed population representing several different cultures and languages: Welland residents speak English, French, Italian, Chinese (with multiple languages grouped together), German, Portuguese, Polish and a few other languages too. Because the city has a significant French-Canadian population, education within the French language is readily available.
From Welland, easy travel is available to Niagara’s other communities via public transit or driving on regional roads and highways. There’s even an airport: The Niagara Central Dorothy Rungeling Airport, CNQ3, which is a municipally owned airport operated by a commission representing the communities of Pelham, Welland, Port Colborne, and Wainfleet. Located in the nearby Town of Pelham, the airport has traditionally been referred to as the Welland Airport, and is listed as such in the Canadian Flight Supplement.
So you see, you CAN get there from here. And home prices in the southern tier of Niagara measure up very well to those outside Niagara: In the Niagara Association of Realtors July report, the residential average sale price of $375,903 was 14.4 per cent higher than the average price last July. For July 2017, in the Greater Toronto Area, the residential average sale price clocked in at $746,218.
