The weather is cooler and the leaves on the trees are starting to change colours. It’s officially fall!

Fall is one of our favourite seasons here at McGarr Realty. We love all the beautiful leaves, the pumpkin spice drinks, and the delicious seasonal food.

In the spirit of this wonderful season, we thought we’d share some fun local activities to add to your autumn bucket list.

When life gives you apples, pick them and make apple pie

‘Tis the season for deliciously sweet apples!

The Niagara Region is replete with pick-your-own (PYO) farms and orchards, as well as roadside stands offering a wide variety of apples, from the local favourite Honeycrisp to the juicy Gala and crisp Fuji.

Fill up a basket at one of the region’s many PYO farms. Parkway Orchards in Niagara-on-the-Lake, Mathias Farms, located in Ridgeville Ontario, and Duffin Farms in Welland are all great farms to check out.

Whether you save them for a tasty treat or use them to bake a warm homemade apple pie or crisp apple strudel, picking apples is a fall rite of passage.

Get lost in a corn maze

Navigate through one of the region’s corn mazes this fall!

Challenge yourself at Howell Family Pumpkin Farm’s maze adventure. There are even lookout towers located within the maze that allow you to see high above the corn and have a look around.

Howell’s also offers tractor rides, an animal farm, and a haystack jumping pillow, making it perfect for a full-day excursion.

Hike through autumn colours

Marvel at the burst of orange, red and yellow foliage transforming the Niagara Escarpment.

Experience the beauty of fall with a hike through Louth Conservation Area in St. Catharines. The hidden gem features a breathtaking waterfall cascading down 15 Mile Creek and stepping-stone-like trails.

The Niagara Glen (Niagara Gorge) is another great spot to appreciate the fall hues. There’s something about the contrast of orange, yellows and reds with the Niagara River’s turquoise water that is truly enchanting.

Get passionate about pumpkins

Apples aren’t the only fruit capturing our attention this fall... It’s also pumpkin season!

Whether you pick pumpkins at a local farm like Warner Ranch, carve one into a jack-o’-lantern, or bake delectable pumpkin-flavoured treats, including this winter squash on your fall bucket list is an absolute must.

And if you haven’t already, we highly recommend you try the famed pumpkin spice latte...

Head to a local festival

The Niagara Region is filled with a variety of fall festivals sure to pique your interest.

There’s the annual Niagara Grape and Wine Festival, where you can taste the region’s local wines and foods while listening to melodious music, Cicada Music and Arts Festival, St. Catharines’ premier indie music festival, and the Ball’s Falls Thanksgiving Festival, which features 50+ artisan crafters, food vendors and live music.

Put on a brave face and venture through NOTL’s Ghost Walk

Prepared to be scared on a ghost walk through Niagara-on-the Lake, “Canada’s most haunted town.”

After the sun goes down, a guide will take you deep within the historical town, stopping at paranormal hotspots like the Niagara-on-the-Lake’s Courthouse, Prince of Wales Hotel, Niagara Apothecary, and Royal George Theatre.

Tours are available for booking and run up until Halloween. For more information, or to book a tour, visit their website.
